This year we are doing things somewhat differently at the festival. We have three stages. A main stage where the groups will be show cased along with music, dancers and a few featured readers including Evelyn Lau who will be doing the opening reading.
The community stage will host the open mics, panel discussions and Speak and Sing. So how can you help? Then each stage will have a check in table where all the readers and performers have to check in about 15 minutes before they go on. So we need people to be at these tables. We have tried to split the times up throughout the day so no one is stuck anywhere for too, too long. And of course we would like more than one person at the tables so if someone has to leave for any reason they are covered.
And we need people to help set up and take down. So please sing up where you can!! We are counting on you. Bring a picnic and blanket and stay for the whole day!
This event is an annual, engaging, outdoor festival established to raise public awareness regarding the on-going literary events, programs and resources available in the community. We will be incorporating 20 literary groups, including multi-cultural readings in various languages, a poetry slam and a story slam competition. There will also be workshops and information tables showcasing community groups and resources such as the Vancouver Public Library and The Federation of BC Writers.
