Good kids begin with a conscious parent. This book totally changed not only the way I look at parenting my 2 year old son, but at all of my relationships. I'm so grateful I found this when he was young. I thought I was already a conscious parent but I had lots of opportunities to change. I love that Dr. Tsabary reads the book - her voice is so soothing. What would have made The Conscious Parent better?
This book has lots of great ideas and goals to achieve as a parent but no real advice regarding what to do when faced with a teenager who is directly antagonistic or recurrently challenging a boundary that must exist. I have 3 good kids but I bought this book because I want to be the best parent possible. This book wasn't a useful tool. What could Dr. Shefali Tsabary have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you? See above. I stopped listening about half way through the book and may have missed the more concrete material.
If that's the case, it needs to be included earlier. You win a reader over by building on small successes and bringing them along. What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike? Her accent was pleasing. What character would you cut from The Conscious Parent? Any additional comments? I wholeheartedly agree with the author's message. I believe strongly that I don't get to "choose" my kids, only guide and support them.
This book affirmed my belief but didn't help me get there. I don't know that it would convince a more authoritarian parent of the primacy of autonomy either. What I got out of the book is i love how she explains the importance of generational mind sets that were passed on from our parents and how important it is to stop it before it continues or worsens with our children.
First of all, I love that the author is the narrator.
What ‘Conscious Uncoupling’ Is Really Like
This book has great tools for accepting and communicating with children of all ages. My girls are 8 and 12 years. My relationship with them has changed in a positive way. I have learned new tools to be present. I will be listening to this again. It's well written and narrated. The subject matter is a collection of personal experiences and case files. It does a reasonable job of identifying scenario types but not of suggesting solutions. The obvious case matter based on ethnic issues and especially what seems to be the middle class makes this book somewhat skewed. There are a few affirmations for my assessments as a parent and healthworker but really nothing concrete I could use.

Publisher's Summary Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. But when you develop the sensitivity to feel how we assimilate take on the consciousness of the animals we consume, you may find it difficult to make the statements you have made and hold to those beliefs.
I have always been riveted by the puzzle of truth. Define truth. Is there absolute truth, or is all truth subjective. Can anything we perceive as Truth on this plane be anything but subjective? Do we make our own truth simply by the utter conviction we experience? If we believe a thing so completely, does it not manifest itself in our lives? I have no doubt that you experience energetic sensitivity in the way you described, and I really do find it interesting!
I come from a long line of hunters, and farmers. I believe in the symbiotic, cooperative dynamic between man and nature. I eat lots, and LOTS of eggs. They are eggs from happy, healthy, free roaming, pampered chickens. I mean pampered lol, plus they are protected from the raccoons and coyotes, we provide that for them. And oyster shells and worms that they eat like ice cream. And dirt baths for the bugs. We only have hens, we do not slaughter them. They provide us with delicious protein rich healthy eggs. There are sooo many other examples of healthy and happy relationships with animals.
It is civilization turned malignant, that created the exploitative slavery and misery our poor little friends experience now. This does not have to be, and is not always, the case. In terms of truth, if you examine it from the lens of the Three Jewels in Buddhism , you have the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.

The Buddha represents a direct subjective experience. The Dharma is the teachings, philosophy, or injunction method. Sangha is a community of others to verify the experience. Go at least 90 days without eating any meat including eggs. Then, eat whatever meat you want, but with your heightened awareness.
This may be the only way to test if what I and many others are suggesting to be true. Then, kill it and prepared. This may also reveal a similar experience. But ultimately, changing these patterns and even testing them with an open mind is no small feat. The conditioning of our beliefs is deeply rooted. This is a very interesting discussion. I believe my journey of self-realization which I am still on , started with a simple interaction with a cat that my wife got a few years ago.
I was never a fan of cats. One thing lead to another, I became a vegetarian, then a vegan, which was followed by feelings of nihilism. I found myself becoming apathetic towards humans, while still connecting with animals on a deeper level. We now have 4 cats in our apartment and I am actively getting more involved in animals rights activism.
Yes, Rizwan. It seems to often happen this way. Some former hunters recount this type of experience too. I fear I have overstayed my welcome lol, truly it is against my nature to ever be more than a fly on the wall of any given room at any given moment. I would like to leave you with this urging. He provides it free on line, he is a true human being and pilgrim in this dark world. I also lament that we will not be any time soon, donning loin cloths and dancing around the campfire ululating. I lament this loss!!!! If that book taught me anything, it was that primeval, primitive man was anything but primitive.
And that living off the land, including animals, in their nomadic foraging state was the end all be all bees knees human existence. Ooooh woe to man, in his lofty endeavors. In his pride and arrogance, he lost his soul.

He gained nothing. Peace tou ALL my brothers and sisters! So acceptance, if used too early in the process does become a spiritual bypass. First, we have to develop an orientation towards our real personality where we can actually see our shadow developing consciousness. Then, acceptance and allowing can come into play. Thank you so much for this article. At times I felt like I was losing my mind, but it seemed like the more I followed the inner pull the more stable and peaceful I felt.
I now trust it completely without knowing why. Until now. I was drawn to your article and read with a shock of recognition each of the points raised to varying degrees. Thanks for sharing your experience, Kirsty. Great article such a pity you had to get on your vegan soapbox and lecture us omnivores about the sins of eating meat when it is the most natural thing a human can do this is after all a human experience.
Being awakened is about acceptance I am awakened and am able to master my inner world yet I love eating meat but I also love animals its called duality try telling a tiger not to eat a deer tigers are spiritual beings also. Veganism, like any -ism, is a political agenda that does create yet another polarization.
This issue comes down to energetic sensitivity. If you reach the sensitivity to feel the consciousness of the animal you consume, you likely will lose your drive to consume them. Thank you for this wonderful article. I feel way different now. I know that i can learn more and this article helped me a lot.

A loss to Baltimore in the Super Bowl, after Kaepernick and the 49ers could not score a touchdown after having first-and-goal at the 7-yard line in the final minutes, did little to suppress the excitement over the quarterback.
But Kaepernick felt the barbs of stardom, too, often dipped in racial undertones.
A Wildly Practical Guide to Authentic Spiritual Awakening
Kaepernick expressed no interest. Columnists criticized him. More and more in front of cameras and reporters, he was all sulking expressions and terse answers. In a running half-joke, reporters began to count the words in his responses. They were often comically short. People who knew Kaepernick in Reno were surprised, and veterans of the N. But as long as the team was winning, few fans cared about his off-field demeanor. The 49ers were under Jim Tomsula in when Kaepernick lost his starting job, then was placed on the season-ending injury list.
In , Tomsula was replaced by Chip Kelly, who named Blaine Gabbert the starting quarterback for the first three preseason games.
It was safe to wonder if most people had heard the last of Colin Kaepernick. There were a few football-related messages early in , including a congratulatory note to Harbaugh, coaching collegiately at Michigan, for a bowl victory. Kaepernick posted a photo and quote of Malcolm X on the February anniversary of his murder. In June, he posted a video of Tupac Shakur, the rapper killed in Rick Kaepernick is on the board of directors.
By then, Colin Kaepernick was auditing a summer course on black representation in popular culture taught by Ameer Hasan Loggins at the University of California, Berkeley. He drove an hour each way to each class, took notes, did the readings and engaged in class discussions, Loggins wrote in a recent essay. Diab previously dated Aldon Smith, another 49ers player, leading to a reported scrap between the two during training camp in Aside from her work on MTV, she is the host of a nationally syndicated show on Hot 97, an influential hip-hop station in New York, and supported the Black Lives Matter movement from that platform.
She has been more active and overtly opinionated than Kaepernick on social media. Loggins and Diab were classmates in Berkeley years ago, and she asked Loggins to recommend books for Kaepernick. It was not the first time Kaepernick sought reading material. As a rookie with the 49ers, he asked Edwards, the sociologist and civil rights activist who served as a consultant for the 49ers, for a reading list, Edwards said. His decision was made on his own — from the heart.
He came to me intellectually curious. The questions he asked me regarding my research, the lectures he attended, he was a sponge. When will they be held accountable? Or did he fear for his life as he executed this man? Less than 24 hrs later another body in the street! He went to training camp to compete with Gabbert for the starting job. A sore throwing shoulder prevented him from playing in the first two preseason games. He was out of uniform, which is probably why no one in the media noticed that he sat on the bench during the national anthem.
It was not until the third game, at home on Aug. A reporter took a photograph of the San Francisco bench, unrelated to Kaepernick, and later spotted him sitting alone near the coolers. Word of the protest did not spread. Steve Wyche of nfl. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder. He added that he had not sought permission from the team or sponsors. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed.
If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right. Some said it was anti-military, a slap to those who served and died. Some thought it was disingenuous for a millionaire, especially one raised comfortably by a white family, to take a stance on black oppression. Some football fans saw Kaepernick as a second-string has-been looking for attention.
Whether you agree with his tactics or not is one type of conversation. The larger conversation is what he is protesting about. For the fourth preseason game, which Kaepernick started, he changed from sitting on the bench to taking a knee on the sideline. Safety Eric Reid joined him. The same night, Jeremy Lane of the Seattle Seahawks sat for the anthem, too. Then soccer player Megan Rapinoe did it before a professional game days later. On Sept.
